Santiago de Compostela

Back to the plan and we headed to Santiago. This is the first stop to a place where I have some very happy memories of holidays with my parents during the 1990s. I’m trying to work out the last time I was here, and it must when I was around 16 years old. Maybe longer. Again – with many places that I re-visited, it had been so long, that I had very sketchy memories. I obviously remember the Cathedral and the main plaza and the winding cobbled streets. As we arrived at the main plaza, I had to give mum a video call and wave at the plaza webcam that mum likes to tune into to see whats going on!!

We were staying in a pension just off the main plaza. A rustic little place. The only thing was , it was baking hot. I don’t remember Galicia having temperatures like this before!!!

As we were only here overnight, we jumped on the tourist road train to see as much of the centre of the city as we could. It really is a beautiful place. I took quite a bit of video of the road train, and I’ll do some editing of it together when I get home and post it.

One thing I recall from Santiago previously was having grilled sardinas. After the road train, we found a lovely little restaurant and yes, they served sardinas – happy Matt. Helen had a wonderful paella marisco. After this, we just headed back to our room and crashed out (again!) – ready for the drive to Vigo airport in the morning.
