I might split this one into a couple of posts as there’s lots of photos and videos to share!
Today (8th July) was the main reason fro visitng Madrid – we had tickets to the Wednesday of the festival and mainly to see Foo Fighters. Not sure we’ll get used to Spanish festivals as, because fo the heat, they start and end much later than in the UK.
The gates opened at 5pm so we chiiled out at the hotel and then went to a local bar in Getafe, Bar El Soportal . Decided to have some tapas and a few drinks to set us up ready for the festival. What a bar though. No frills, local, but top draw for thier tapas. They actually kept feeding us, as is tradition in many places, with every drink, they give you a small plate. We could’ve eaten very well without ordering tapas. But we learned the hard way! The food was amazing though. In the end they were just giving us small plates of their specialities for us to try – I think one was Spanish black pudding, which was cracking!!!
After this, we junped in an Uber and set off to the festival, about 10 minutes up the road. We got there for around 5pm, but the gates were delayed until around 6pm. Once in there, we had some time to check out the merch, by a beer and then get to watching some bands.
There loads of sets that I wanted to watch, but there were so many clashes and overlaps, we didn’t see many full sets. We caught Palaye Royale who I hadn’t really listend to before, and in fairness they were great.
I hung around at the stage for The Last Dinner Party. I’ve wanted to see them for a long time. I was a real big fan of their degut album. I watched their Isle of Wight festival set on TV a few weeks earlier, and really didn’t think much of them, so was hoping I wouldn’t feel the same way here. They were great though, and enjoyed their set from the barrier.
There’s another video I want to upload, but its too big. I’ll work that out ready for the next post as there’s plenty of videos to span=m you all from the main event …the Foo Fighters.
