We love a holiday. We’re always planning ahead. Its something to look forward to
This year’s trip is a bit of an adventure – by car, sea, and air. We’re leaving Bridgend on Sunday 28th June, heading to Plymouth for the Brittany Ferries overnight sailing to Santander. Twenty-four hours at sea, arriving Monday afternoon. Then a couple weeks of driving, festivals, cities, and a dash down to Madrid by plane!
Here’s the full route:
The plan, roughly:
29 Jun – Santander to Oviedo. Drop off the ferry, stretch the legs, head west along the Cantabrian coast to Oviedo for the night.
30 Jun – Oviedo to O Vicedo. A possible detour to the Fernando Alonso Museum – hard to drive through Asturias in a sports car and not at least consider it. Then onwards to Pensión O Remo in O Vicedo on the Galician coast.
1–5 Jul – Viveiro. Resurrection Fest. This is the main event. Resurrection Fest is a great looking metal festivals, tucked into a small Galician town and somehow punching way above its weight on lineup. Five days of this. No apologies.
5 Jul – Santiago de Compostela. One night in Santiago, which after five days of festival feels like a spa break regardless of what the hotel’s actually like. We’re staying at the Luxury Rooms Oxford, which sounds exactly right.
6 Jul – Vigo and Madrid. Drive to Vigo Airport, fly to Madrid. Car stays at Vigo. We check into the Ibis Madrid Getafe and promptly ignore everything sensible.
7 Jul – A chance to explore Madrid. Haven’t been here since visiting my auntie and cousins way back in 1992.
8 Jul – MadCool Festival. The Foo Fighters. That’s the reason. That’s the whole reason.
9 Jul – Back to Vigo. Fly back, pick up the car, drive to our Airbnb in Ponteareas near Vigo.
9–15 Jul — Ponteareas. This is the recovery leg. Good food, good wine, somewhere quiet.
15 Jul – Start heading north. Overnight somewhere between Galicia and Santander, TBD. We’ll see how we feel.
16 Jul – Ferry home. Santander to Plymouth. Arrive 17th, drive back to Bridgend, immediately start planning the next one.
I’ll be posting as we go – updates from the road, the gigs, the food, the inevitable moments where something doesn’t quite go to plan. If you want to follow along, the map above will show where we are at each stop.
More soon.
